The Kiwi Kids’ Bookstore is an online bookstore created by New Zealand children’s author Kate Gordon-Smith that showcases books by New Zealand authors and illustrators for children and teens aged 0-15.
The hand-selected array of books by Kiwi authors includes board and picture books for our youngest readers, junior fiction, early chapter books and middle grade fiction for ages 6-12, young adult fiction for ages 13-15, plus a growing line-up of quality, New Zealand-produced non-fiction, poems, graphic novels and activity books. Many of the titles may not be stocked by mainstream bookstores.
All books are in print format – paperback, board or hardcover – and orders are dispatched from our premises in Wanaka. We ship to New Zealand addresses only at this point, but books can easily be ordered by people overseas to be sent to a New Zealand address. Gift vouchers are available for future redemption in the Kiwi Kids’ Bookstore.
The online store is easy to navigate with books sorted by age group and type, and searchable by topic or theme. Most books are shown with reviews and other helpful information. Find out more about the Kiwi authors whose books are sold in the store in the Meet Kiwi Authors section. Read book reviews and other thoughts about books and reading in the News, Views and Reviews section. Sign up for the regular bookstore newsletter for exclusive special offers and discount coupons, new book news and giveaways.
The secure ecommerce site takes payment by online banking transfer or credit card. Schools and early childhood centres are welcome to apply for a trade account to be invoiced for payment on 20th of the following month.
As a New Zealand author of children’s books, bookstore owner Kate Gordon-Smith (pictured) could see there was a niche for a bookstore exclusively featuring books by New Zealand authors for children and teens.
To Kate’s thinking, there are some absolutely amazing bookstores in New Zealand showcasing children’s books, but they have a whole world of books to choose from. That sometimes makes it harder for NZ books to feature and for book buyers looking for NZ books to have a wide selection to browse. That’s why she opted to focus on NZ children’s and teen books, be that fiction or non-fiction, poems and activity books.
She is passionate about supporting New Zealand authors, illustrators and publishers. She supports indie and trad published authors equally, selecting only books which meet her high standards of writing, editing, production and printing.
