Gillian King and her daughter Georgina are born and bred farmers. Both of them grew up on a farm on d’Urville Island in the Marlborough Sounds. Their lives have followed similar paths, with Correspondence schooling, farming in relatively isolated places and a shared love for nuturing and raising animals.
Gillian has previously illustrated her mother’s poetry books for children and cannot remember a time when her life wasn’t filled with “all creatures, great and small”.
Georgie is a Farmer was an idea hatched by Georgina to encourage her mother back to her paints.
Gillian then wrote and illustrated Ten Pesky Piglets herself.
