Amorangi and Millie’s Trip Through Time

It started out as an ordinary day, but it didn’t stay that way.

One minute, Amorangi and Millie were talking to their mum, and the next, she had disappeared. The only clue was a carving on a tree:  I’m in the past! Rescue me!

This begins Amorangi and Millie’s adventure back in time where they have to avoid attacks by a giant eagle, survive a volcanic eruption and meet their ancestors up every branch of their family tree. From the swinging sixties to the invasion of Parihaka to the Musket Wars, they must hunt for clues to find their mum. And they have to hurry. If they’re not back by sunset, they’ll all be trapped in the past forever…

Description

In their travels, the children experience aspects of events in New Zealand history, such as the invasion of Parihaka, the Great Depression, World War Two, the Musket Wars and the eruption of Mount Taranaki. They also experience changes in the town and landscape, the attitudes of people and the way people live their lives.

Kate’s comment ~ more of a younger middle grade read for readers aged 8 to 10 with a relatively uncomplicated plot line and straightforward writing style.

Reviews

Read NZ ~ This book was an enjoyable read. The first thing that really caught me was the concept, it was so interesting. The idea that you had to go back through each generation of your family tree. There are a lot of books about time travel, and this concept wasn’t really one that I’d read about before. The settings were also so vivid and detailed. I could see the picture of where the characters were in my head.
