All our books are created by New Zealand authors and illustrators
Pre-settlement New Zealand had many raptors, including one of the largest in the world. Now there is just one left – the kārearea – and it is endangered.
This remarkable falcon is known for its fearless hunting prowess, aerial acrobatics and fierce protection of its chicks. In words and pictures the characteristics of the kārearea and the challenges it faces are revealed. Conservation initiatives invite readers to help efforts to ensure the fearless falcon has a strong future.
The superb illustrations and educational prose in Kārearea – Fearless Falcon bring this spirited bird to life. It reveals how it hunts for food, finds places to settle and raise its chicks as well as the numerous challenges it faces to survive.
