Description
A journey through time and discovery, where real-life Kiwi legends have changed the way that we think about and care for our health. This book is a vibrant children’s book celebrating Aotearoa’s remarkable doctors, nurses, innovators and community champions, encouraging tamariki to recognise the spark of courage, kindness, and curiosity within themselves. From well-known Kiwis like the blooming marvellous Sir Dr Ashley Bloomfield, the wonderful William Pike, and the unstoppable Buttabean Dave Letele, it also introduces other important Kiwi health heroes that our kids haven’t heard of but should know about. The stories about everyday New Zealanders that have achieved amazing feats in healthcare or after a health event give the strong message that kids can grow up to do anything they set their minds to, especially the story of Eddie Te Hōia who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and at age 10 was the youngest person to speak at Parliament for funding for a cool medical device. And guess what? He got the funding! This inspiring little book also has an option to choose your own pick-a-path route to uncover more medical gems.
