Kids Books NZ ~ This is a very summery story. And what do New Zealanders do on a hot summer’s day? We eat icecream, of course! Joe gets his pocket money and makes a beeline for the local icecream store. What does he get? Chocolate with chocolate flakes – yum! But he’s not even out of the door before he licks too eagerly – and the icecream splats on the floor. Fortunately Mr Scooper gives him another one. But it’s so hot, and the icecream melts – what a mess! A second visit results in Joe being given a goody goody gum drops icecream – he sits down to eat it – and a seagull swoops down… you won’t believe what Joe has to eat instead of an icecream!
The light summery illustrations with their pastel colours are just right for this tasty story. But be ready to take your pre-schoolers to the shop for an icecream as soon as you’ve finished reading… Read more NZ kids book reviews.
