Kate Lattey lives on a six-acre farm in Foxton, New Zealand with a horse, a pony, a dog, a cat, a rooster, two hens, and 20-odd sheep. Coming from a non-horsey family, she was an avid reader of pony books, but didn’t start riding until she was 10 years old. She was lucky enough to own her first pony two years later, and went on to compete regularly in eventing and show jumping, before heading to university and attaining a degree in English and Media Studies.

In the years since, Kate has never been far from horses, and has worked in various jobs including as a livery yard groom in England, a trekking guide in Ireland, running a riding school in New Zealand, and spending five wonderful summers in the USA as a camp counsellor at Road's End Farm, NH. During her second summer there, she wrote several short stories about the farm's horses, which were a huge hit with the campers, and gave her the motivation to go home and continue writing pony stories.

Kate is a qualified NZPCA coach and is the head coach of her local Moutoa Pony Club branch. She is a show jumping and show hunter course builder, and is currently training to be a show hunter judge. She also commentates at cross-country events, and trains young riders in jumping and dressage.

Kate has been reading and writing pony stories ever since she can remember, and loves being able to share them with readers who love horses just as much as she does.
